ABOUT THE AREA
La Saladita is a small town located in Guerrero, Mexico that is a tight-knit community that is rich in their surf culture.
Many of the shops and restaurants are located directly on the beach facing the breaks and are supported by the local and visiting surfers. The town is welcoming and safe. Most of the town has been owend and overseen by one famly, and the majority of locals work in the community in and around the beach. There is also a huge expat community and loads of westerners own houses, and are in the water or on the beach at all times. most of the rental spots overlook the sea, and the town is considered so safe, most people don’t even lock their doors. there is no history of petty crime at all, since the community is isolated and protected by the community. Saladita has seen a lot of growth in the last few years, with a few new cafes and restaurants, and many new rentals.
Less than ten minutes from Saladita back towards the Highway, is the neighboring town of Los Llanos. This a where many of the towns people actually live and where you will find an ATM, a Pharmacy, and a few Tiendas (markets) as well as some restaurants and shops.
The other adjacent community to Saladita is a town called Troncones, 20 minutes back towards the airport and on the beach as well. This is a more developed community with expensive houses built by westerners, more established hotels, and a larger selection of Juice bars, coffee shops and Restaurants. Damien Hirst and julian Schnabel have House’s for example.

USEFUL INFORMATION
ELECTRICITY : Same as in the states, bring all your chargers.
CURRENCY: Mexico uses the Peso. The dollar is currently worth about 18 pesos. i usually round up and assume its 20/1 so that math is easy.
CREDIT CARDS : They are taken in most of the upscale joints in troncones, and some of the spots on the beach in saladita, but cash is king.
BANKS : Best Bet is to brings a good amount of USD as your back up, since most places will take American Dollars, and then also pull out local currency. There is a Money exchange at the airport but I use the ATMS to pull out Pesos. The Airport is a good place to use the ATM, otherwise there is only 1 ATM in Troncones, and one in Los Llanos near Saladita (and they theoretically can run out of cash sometimes). *expert tip is that on the atm screen you do not have to “accept the conversion” they suggest. you can instead hit “no” and let your bank decide the exchange rate it prefers.
WATER : Do no drink tap water in Mexico. However, all houses, hotels, have filted water for guests, and majority of restuarants use Filtered water for ice, since the majority of income is from foreign tourism. I always bring a refillable water bottle to use at the house, but not at all necessary.
MEDICAL: There are local on demand out call doctors if need be, and the urgent care is in Zihuatanejo.
TIPS: make sure you have cash for tipping your caretaker and cook at the rental house.
WIFI & CELL SERVICE : All hotels and Rental houses will have Wifi. Depending on your cell netwrk you may not get any service on the beach. Some of the local cafes also have wifi.
AIR & WATER : Air temp will likely range between 75-90 degres Farenheit. Water Temp will range between 85-90 Degrees.
PACKING : Pack for the tropics. you may not even wear shoes most days, let alone long pants ever.
DONT FORGET :
YOUR PASSPORT
sunscreen and sun coverage, its gets toasty.
books, music, and movies - its time to relax.
Bug spray (rainy season is over but you never know).
If you are a coffee snob, bring your good stuff.
Travel Insurance is not a bad idea, i use World Nomads since they do sport coverage.
Extra $$
downloading movis and audio books on the apps helps not worry about the wifi
